The Neuro Anaesthesia & Critical Care Society

Please see here for further information about NACCS that was presented to the JNC in November 2018.

The Neuro Anaesthesia & Critical Care Society (NACCS) exists to promote education, training and the provision of high-quality neuroanaesthesia and neurocritical care in the UK and Ireland. It has evolved from The Neurosurgical Travelling Club (NATC) founded in 1965.

It has over 350 members, many of whom attend the annual scientific meeting (ASM) usually held in May. Each of the neurosurgical centres in the UK is also represented by a link person. In some centres a second link person represents neuro critical care.

The NACCS awards annual travel grants up to £2500.

The NACCS council has ten elected members who meet three times a year to coordinate activities.

The society is constantly evolving to meet members’ aims and wishes. Strong links are maintained with other societies including the Royal College of Anaesthetists, the Association of Anaesthetists, Society of British Neurosurgeons as well as the Critical Care Leadership Forum. These links all help in promoting neuroanaesthesia and critical care.

The NACCS is a nominating body for the ACCEA scheme.

The society actively promotes research and coordinates ‘peer reviewed’ online surveys for members and is soon to host level 3 CPD guidance on behalf of the Royal College of Anaesthetists on its website.
